Chrome extension
Watch YouTube together. Stay in sync.
Global SharePlay is watch-together for everyone — play, pause, seek, and change videos as a room. No accounts. A nickname and a room ID are enough.
How it works
- 01
Add the extension
Install Global SharePlay from the Chrome Web Store. It runs on YouTube watch pages and follows that tab’s playback.
- 02
Create or join a room
Open the popup, pick a nickname, and start a room — or enter a room ID a friend already has.
- 03
Share an invite
Copy a link with the current video and room. Friends with the extension land on whatever the room is watching.
- 04
Watch in sync
Play, pause, seek, or switch videos and the room follows. The host can approve joiners and keep the group together.
What you can do in a room
A room is a shared YouTube timeline for up to ten people. Nobody signs in. The host keeps the group watchable, an invite points at the video the room is on, and an idle room is discarded instead of becoming a saved club.
Getting started
What the extension changes on a watch page, how a nickname works, and what the first room actually shares.
Rooms and hosts
Approve, remove, and lock controls, the ten-person cap, and the fifteen-minute idle timeout.
Invite links
What you copy, why a friend never stays on a chrome-extension URL, and when to copy a fresh link.
Troubleshooting
Holds during joins and ads, the wrong video, a room that vanished, and what to email support.
